I lived in Hanau from 1972 until 1995. I still go home to visit my mother but it isn't the same anymore since the bases closed. All my friends are long gone, my school has been torn down among other things.

I was born in Munich but my heart is in Hanau and always will be. My daughter was born in the hospital downtown Hanau and went to german school in Ravolzhausen before we moved back to the states. It was a hard decision but as a single mother it was very hard working 6-7 days a week and raising her. My mother helped but it was still hard to pay the bills.

I left my heart in Hanau............

I served with 56th from June 1989 til November 1991. I remember CPT Frazier and 1SG Misingbach. SFC Paige was my platoon Sergeant & SGT Jackson & SGT Merchanson was my squad leaders. I also remember MSG Tillman. This was my 1st duty station & I had some great times.

I can't believe you don't remember me man we went to the Jethro Tull Under Wraps concert with Joe Foderer & the tall blonde haired dude that lived below Kreiger & I on the 2nd flr. after the concert we were running through the train station past a photo booth ran back took a photo. I'd drawn the picture from the photo, the flash put stars in our eyes! you came to our room every day after work to do a bowl or two. We smoked enough Hash to kill a small horse.... or how about the ponds not far from our unit? 3 ponds you had that Asian girlfriend? any of this ringing a bell, used to go to Kerry's to party her husband was a prior service civilian they got divorced she hooked up with Mullens big white dude from Indiana. We all lived over at Bruno's especially on sundays with Marchello and Luigi in the kitchen. okay well get back with me if you remember.

Dunham give me a call man 765-585-9303 where are you located now dude? I was Krieger's roommate. left Germany and went to Ft. Sill Oklahoma so did Krieger & Sgt Brenda German & her old man. Krieger and I hung out a bit but my ex wife put and end to that, she ran him off by being herself. I asked him what the problem was he said you won't like it. I said what he said I don't like her & she don't like me so I lost touch with him. I have photos from over there contact me ! Even the fire down on the end remember that?

I joined the army straight out of High School. I went to fort Jackson for basic and then on to Fort Lee.
I started my tour in 26S&S. I didnt like it. I was transfered to run the Five Phenig Playhouse. Where I acted in plays and volunteered work at Hanau Elementary. I am still an Actor. Living in Hollywood of course.

I was stationed at Hessen Homburg Kaserne , b company , 1985- 1988 . I was there and loved every minute. the people were great and when I let it was a very large part of my life was closing and I would love to go back some day. I know that the changes are many and that the tears would be flowing for it is not as I remember and it would take me a few days to adjust. yet I am still hopeful that I am able to make it.

I was stationed in Hanau at Pioneer Kaserne with the 26th S&S Co from Jan 1972 until July 1974. Many great memories of Hanau. I wish I could go back but it appears that it has changed so much that I wouldn't recognize it.

Thank you for sharing your memories.

Hanau has been changing a lot, and the changes continue.
There is that huge building project on Freiheitsplatz, you won't recognise the place anymore. You can follow what is happening on my Facebook page where I publish new pictures in the album Hanau baut um.

But, there will be always corners that will remain the same. Keep the memories, and find those places when you come back.
